A lovely start to lunchtime circuits - and two Boxercise spaces
A lovely start to lunchtime Circuits—and two Boxercise spaces!
A strong start to lunchtime Circuits—and Boxercise is next!
Thank you to the 11 people who joined me for our first Tuesday lunchtime Circuits class! I was really pleased to welcome so many of you to the new slot and introduce a slightly different, more strength-focused format.
Why the greater focus on strength?
I wanted to make more room for strength work while keeping the variety and flexibility that people enjoy about Circuits.
Previously, we had two separate cardio stations: one dedicated to the spin bikes and WaterRowers, and another for our playground activities. For this new lunchtime session, I’ve brought those together into one flexible station, freeing up a full station for dedicated leg strengthening.
The new layout looks like this:
Station 1: Lower-body strength. A repeated exercise, such as a goblet squat, gives us more time to work on leg strength.
Stations 2 and 4: Upper-body strength. With legs getting their own station, these stations have more room for upper-body exercises.
Station 3: Cardio and playground. Choose from the spin bike, WaterRower, rebounder, skipping and weighted hula hoop, depending on what suits you and how hard you want to push the cardiovascular element.
More time to practise, more time to strengthen
Repeating a leg exercise across the rounds gives you a chance to become familiar with the movement, refine your technique and choose a suitable weight. It also means more time working against resistance, rather than fitting each strength exercise into a smaller part of the session.
Giving legs their own station frees up space elsewhere. Stations 2 and 4 can offer a broader mix of upper-body work, with more attention to movements such as pushing and pulling.
Cardio still has a place in the class. Combining the bikes and rowers with the playground equipment simply gives you a wider choice within one station.
The aim is a class with more strength-building work that remains varied, accessible and recognisably Circuits. You can choose weights and exercise options that suit you, and I’ll be there to help.
Tuesday lunchtime Circuits runs at 12 noon, initially as a four-week trial. Thank you to everyone who helped get it off to such a positive start—I’d love to hear how you found the format.
Next up: Boxercise with Elle
Our first Boxercise class with Elle Jessica Marie is this Thursday, 24 September, at 6:30pm.
The class had been fully booked, but a couple of spaces opened up yesterday. If you originally missed out, check the booking page on my website or your Fit by Wix app for availability.
Elle is a very experienced Brighton group fitness instructor, and I’m looking forward to welcoming her. No boxing experience is needed, and gloves and pads are provided.
Both classes take place at Stanford Avenue Methodist Church in Fiveways, Brighton.
Matthew :)
Stretch, strengthen, shimmy and smile 🙂
